About Porter Square Books

  • We have an active events program of approximately 200 author appearances per year, both in-store and at other locations, as well as more than 100 additional off-site events that we provide books for.
  • We host a monthly program called “Be the Change”, fostering civic engagement and activism. We also have a charitable foundation, the Porter Square Books Foundation, whose mission is to foster a love of reading and of books, particularly among children and families in our local communities whose access to books may be limited by economic or cultural factors. Through the Foundation, we bring middle-grade and children’s authors to schools 20 or more times per year.
  • We work with, and have deep connections to, many of the schools in the local communities (Cambridge and Somerville as well as surrounding towns) and have a close partnership with the Cambridge Public Library.
  •  Articles about our store have appeared in the Boston Globe and many other local papers, Publishers Weekly, Working Knowledge (Harvard Business School), as well as on Weekend Edition with Scott Simon, Chronicle (a newsmagazine television series of WCVB, the Boston ABC affiliate station) and CBS This Morning
